Modern Facilities Throughout Bristol:

  • We have many main centres throughout Bristol, including: Ashley Down, Bedminster, College Green, Hartcliffe, Lawrence Weston, Monarch House, Parkway and Soundwell
  • The new £6 million Soundwell Centre opened its doors to the public in September 2006. The extensive modernisation programme includes improved IT facilities, a new Learning Resource Centre and vocational centre, new hair and beauty salons and improved sports facilities
  • The Ashley Down Centre has undergone a £25 million renovation project to restore the building's exterior, provide state-of-the-art facilities and improve the teaching and communal areas
  • In October 2000 our new College Green Centre opened, placing us at the very heart of the city. Here we offer 600 full and part-time courses. Facilities include a purpose-built A Level Centre, 1,000 PCs with direct internet access, a 250-seat fast cafe and state-of-the-art language and science laboratories
  • The prestigious Beacon Engineering Award was made in recognition of our superb Engineering Skills Development Centre at the Ashley Down Centre

Facilities and Student Life:

The City of Bristol College Students Union helps you get out and meet people, save money and have fun. Your NUS card enables you to save money on a range of things including discounts in shops and food outlets, special prices in the cinema and theatre and discounted rail travel.

There is a student liaison team who work to organise events including One World Week, Jobs Fairs, Theatre Groups

There are fundraising events from busking to concerts, sponsored walks etc and opportunities to get involved in campaigns in all the latest social, political other issues.

You can also purchase an 'Activities Pass' for £10 and get access to a wide range of sporting and fitness activities free or at discounted rate.

Catering and Hospitality

Full Time -
NVQ 2 - Professional Cookery

2 years full-time

Entry requirements - good general education, personal interview, 100% attendance and punctuality required

This is a Level 2 course in Professional Cookery & Food Service, which aims to prepare you for a career in the kitchen or restaurant in any sector of he Hospitality Industry. If you have an interest in food and want to learn skills and techniques to take your first step towards a careers in the Hospitality Industry, then this course is for you. Working as part of a team, you will get loads of hands-on experience in our superb purpose built restaurants and cafes. Then, through a planned work-placement you will experience life in the real world. As well as practical skills you will learn about hygiene, customer service, costing, using IT & health and safety - all necessary to support your practical skills in the kitchen.

Also includes a food service qualification

NVQ 3 - Advanced Professional Cookery

1 year full-time

Entry requirements - NVQ 2 Professional Cookery, Food Service or equivalent, personal interview, 100% attendance and punctuality required

This course is your chance to specialise. You'll get to choose from a number of options from Kitchen & Larder to Food Service of Hospitality Supervision. It's a demanding course, so you'll need to be motivated but you'll be rewarded with an in-depth knowledge of your chosen area. You'll get an insight into supervisory aspects of your specialism and learn more about hygiene. Time spent working on placements will add to your experiences and you'll come away well prepared to take your career to the next level

While on the course you will study the following units: The industry, Customer Service, Cooking & Serving Food, Health & Safety & Hygiene, Costing and Planning an Event - this will prepare students for further study and/or employment in the Hospitality Industry

BTEC National Diploma / National Certificate

2 years full time

Entry requirements - 4 GCSEs at grade C or above preferably to include English Language or equivalent Key Skill literacy or numeracy qualification, NVQ Level 2 qualifications in Hotel and Catering, personal interview, 100% attendance and punctuality required.

BIIAB Personal Licence Holders

A day and half course providing the accredited qualification for Personal Licence Holders required under the new liquor licensing legislation

Wines & Sprits Intermediate Certificate

Course covers wine regions of the world, how wine grows and production. Learn how to interpret alcoholic beverage labels, assess main characteristics of tasting and advise on choice

NVQ 2 Professional Cookery

Available on day release basis

NVQ 3 Advanced Professional Cookery

NVQ 2 Food and Drink Service

You will learn how to serve food and drink confidently. Study areas include serving food and drink, customer service skills, safety and security and maintaining effective working relationships

Suitable if you work in a supervisory position, front office, restaurant, housekeeping, kitchen etc

Foundation Degrees
FdSc Food and Beverage Management

In partnership with University of Plymouth

This course has been designed to offer a number of core modules that are essential to any employee working in kitchens and restaurants whatever the sector of the catering industry. These modules include marketing, facilities management and People Management in addition to more specific modules including food and beverage management and event management.

This course can be either 2 years full time or 3 years part-time

Travel and Tourism

Full time
OCR Level 1 National Award - Travel & Tourism

1 year full time

Entry requirements - an entry level qualification, appropriate literary and numeracy skills, personal interview.

This is a great first step to an exciting career in leisure and tourism. You will study 8 units covering working in leisure and tourism, team work and problem solving in the industry as well as visits to UK attractions and destinations. You will also work towards the adult certificate in literacy and numeracy.

OCR Level 2 National Certificate - Travel & Tourism

1 year full time

Entry requirements - Grade D at GCSE, or foundation GNVQ or Introductory Certificate / Diploma

This course will give you a good introduction to the travel and tourism industries. You will study 6 units from Dealing with Customers to Investigating Tourist Destination. You will have the opportunity to visit attractions in the UK and maybe to travel to Europe where you will experience different forms of travel, visit hotels and theme parks. You will also study key skills.

OCR Level 3 Extended National Diploma - Travel & Tourism

2 year full time

Entry requirements - at least 4 GCSEs at grade C and above including English or equivalent relevant Key Skill literacy or numeracy qualification, 100% attendance and punctuality is required

If you want a career in the world of Travel, Tourism, Airlines or Airports then this course covers everything you need to know from customer service marketing, retail travel operations to visitor attractions, investigating the airline industry to working as cabin crew.

There are 3 pathways to choose from - Tour Operations, Tourism Development, Airlines and Airports

You will take 18 units over the 2 years and have the opportunity to travel in the UK and abroad. You will also study Key Skills in Communication, Information Technology and Application of Number.

OCR Level 3 National Certificate - Travel & Tourism with Cabin Crew

1 year full time

Entry requirements - at least 4 GCSEs at grade C and above including English or equivalent relevant Key Skill literacy or numeracy qualification, GNVQ in Leisure & Tourism, mature students are welcome on interview, 100% attendance and punctuality is required.

This course is for those interested in moving into the job of Cabin Crew and ground staff at airports. You will study Travel and Tourism from customer service to travel locations and the Certificate in Preparation for Cabin Crew. You will have the opportunity to visit airports and airlines and maybe travel overseas.

OCR Level 3 National Certificate - Travel & Tourism with Overseas Resort Rep

1 year full time

Entry requirements - at least 4 GCSEs at grade C and above including English or equivalent relevant Key Skill literacy or numeracy qualification, GNVQ in Leisure & Tourism, mature students are welcome on interview, 100% attendance and punctuality is required.

This course gives you a taste of the travel industry with the emphasis on training as an Overseas Resort Representative. You will take six units including customer service and study the additional BTEC Diploma in Overseas Resort Operations. Opportunities for work experience / work shadowing abroad and trips overseas will be available.

Part-time courses
BTEC Level 2 National Certificate - Preparation for Air Cabin Crew Service

A course designed for those interested in becoming Air Cabin Crew. You will cover Airline Operations, The Working Environment, People Skills & Sales and Health and Safety, and Security and Hygiene.

BTEC Level 2 National Diploma - Overseas Resort Operations

A qualification for those interested in a career as a Tour Representative overseas. Study includes preparation to succeed in work overseas with leading tour operators.

Foundation Degrees
Business (Tourism & Hospitality)

In partnership with the University of Plymouth.

This course combines industry specific units such as Managing Visitor Attractions, Facilities Management and Tourism Sustainability with Work Experience.

This course can be either 2 years full time or 3 years part-time.
