About the University
Bath Spa is a 'teaching-led' university, which means that the highest possible emphasis is placed on teaching quality for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Considerable emphasis is placed on developing innovative methods of teaching and assessment, and the academic environment is supportive and friendly. Newton Park is the largest of two campuses, where all courses except Art and Design are located. The campus boasts its own lake, nature reserve, woods and farmland, along with beautiful historically important buildings. Several of the period buildings have been refurbished to provide teaching and study rooms - such as the 14th century Castle tower and the Castle Gatehouse, both scheduled ancient monuments.
New developments at Newton Park (such as the new Students' Union centre, the enhanced library and IT facilities, new Refectory and new University Theatre) blend sympathetically with the historic buildings and provide a superb and well equipped study environment.
The University is part of a pilot 'EcoCampus' scheme (and is the first university to receive the EcoCampus Silver Award) aimed at continuous improvement in environmental performance.
Facilities & Student life
With around 5,500 students Bath Spa University is large enough to provide an extensive range of course and excellent facilities, but small enough for students to feel part of a close-knit community. The Students' Union runs an active programme of social and sporting clubs and societies, and regular entertainments on campus.
Student accommodation for first year students is of a high standard, and comprises self-catering halls on campus and an off-site development, Waterside Court, located between the University and the city centre.
