National Diploma (ND)

What is it?

A National Diploma is designed for those who wish to enter employment at a supervisory level or alternatively for progression into Higher Education (HE). If you want to complete a National Diploma (ND) in order to enter employment, you may find that this type of qualification is preferred to A-Levels as it provides vocational training and offers experience and practice rather than just theory.

Those wish to complete a ND as a stepping stone to Higher Education will usually go on to study at HND (Higher National Diploma) or Degree level.

Course content:

The content of National Diploma courses varies depending on the course chosen. However, all National Diplomas tend to include work experience and business studies.

Duration:

A National Diploma is usually completed over a 3 year period on a full time basis which will include one year where you will go out and work in the industry. Some institutions may give you the opportunity to complete this course in two years without the work experience opportunity. If choosing this route it is highly recommended that you gain some relevant work experience in your spare time. Potential employers will often look favourably on those who have gained industry experience that goes hand in hand with their relevant qualification.

Entry Requirements:

To gain entry onto a National Diploma course you will require four GCSE's at Grade C or above, often to include English and Mathematics.
