Training for all jobs can usually be provided while you are working and often a positive attitude and enthusiasm can prove to be as valuable an asset as a qualification. If you are considering furthering your education, there are a wide range of courses, qualifications and study methods to suit you. These range from National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) to Degrees, full-time study to distance learning – you can even study for qualifications while at work.

“Having the right personal qualities is often thought as important, or even more important, than having formal qualifications. Some employers may, however, ask for three or four GCSE’s at grades A-C or equivalent. Many entrants have GCSE’s or higher qualifications such as A and AS levels, Higher National Diplomas or Degrees. Useful subjects at GCSE are Maths, English, a foreign language and perhaps Geography”

Below is a brief description of various qualifications that may be of interest to you. For further information select your desired qualification from the menu on the left hand side.

Diploma

The Diploma is a new qualification that combines theoretical study with practical experience. This qualification provides students with an integrated programme of study made up of different courses and awards. A Diploma can be taken alongside other qualifications such as GCSE’s or A-Levels.

National Diploma (ND)

A National Diploma is designed for those who wish to enter employment at a supervisory level or alternatively for progression into Higher Education (HE). If you want to complete a National Diploma (ND) in order to enter employment, you may find that this type of qualification is preferred to A-Levels as it provides vocational training and offers experience and practice rather than just theory. National Vocational Qualification (NVQ)

National Vocational Qualifications, more commonly known as NVQs, are different to academic qualifications because they are work-based meaning that you complete the qualification whilst also working in the industry. As you will be working in the industry whilst completing this qualification a large majority of the assessment will be taken from your performance in the workplace – great for those who are not keen on exams! Apprenticeship

Apprenticeships give you the chance to earn while you learn! It is a work-based vocational scheme where you can study for a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ), a Technical Certificate and Key Skills qualification whilst working full time.. Click here...

Foundation Degree

Foundation Degrees ensure that you graduate with the skills needed to take you forward in your chosen career. Foundation Degrees are designed in partnership with employers, colleges and university partners to ensure quality and maximise your employability. As they are validated by universities, Foundation Degrees provide you with the opportunity to top up to a degree level qualification. Click here...

Higher National Diploma (HND)

Higher National Diplomas / Certificates provide an alternative for those who want to get a Higher Education qualification but do not want to do an Undergraduate Degree. HNDs / HNCs are more vocational than Degrees and often have a more practical focus. If deciding to study for a HNC you are often given the opportunity to top-up to a HND with another year of study. If choosing a HND, you are often given the opportunity to ‘top-up’ to a degree level in an extra one to two years of study. Click here...

Undergraduate Degree (BA/ BSc)

An Undergraduate Degree will allow you to gain a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc) Degree. By gaining one of these Degrees you can boost your career progression, often allowing you to gain responsibility earlier on in your career. Many Degrees are subject based rather than focused on a specific profession and therefore offer a wide range of employment opportunities. Click here...

Masters Degree
